History

BFGC-IBI Group Architecture Planning a professional corporation for the practice of architecture and planning, emerged from

a firm founded in 1949, by Whitney Biggar, AIA. To accommodate growth, a Biggar and Cartnal partnership was established in 1968. A separate Frapwell and Ghezzi partnership, formed in 1964, was simultaneously expanding. In 1974, a merger of these two partnerships was completed to meet the demands of larger, more complex projects and an expanding, increasingly sophisticated clientele.

The growth and diversification of bfgc was further enhanced by another merger in 1987. The Engelien Tuculet Partnership joined the firm to continue service of more than eight hundred clients throughout California. This service was expanded to the Central Coast in 1989, with a second office in San Luis Obispo to take advantage of the talented workforce graduating from Cal Poly State University, one of the best architectural schools in the nation. As we marketed up and down the Hwy 101 corridor, it became obvious that our talents and services were needed in the bay area. The San Jose office was established in 1996 and continues to serve an expanded client base in the Educational and Health care arenas. Now in it's sixth decade, bfgc with our established offices in Bakersfield, San Luis Obispo, San Jose, and Sacramento have completed another merger that has catapulted us onto the world marketplace. On August 1, 2009 BFGC joined the IBI Group of firms, an international firm with 67 offices worldwide and approximately 2,285 people. The IBI Group practice embraces four key areas to create a sustainable community: urban and land planning, buildings and facilities, transportation, and Systems. The combined talents and energies of professionals worldwide who understand the importance of strong local client service, will make this new merged firm a worldwide leader in full-service excellence.
